The Akila ice axe from Blue Ice is the first Basic (B) or Type 1 tool that not only falls into the ultra-lightweight category, at just 330g, but acheives such high ratings as a technical piolet. Functional and durable, this piolet is designed for hard use, making the Akila a leading choice for alpine climbing and ski mountaineering. Designed and rigorously tested in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc to find the optimal balance of weight and efficiency, and anchoring regardless of the surface.
The chromoly steel ergonomic head is comfortable in both self belay and self arrest grip, the adze has a blade wide enough to quickly clear snow for ice screw placement and the real spike is a nice feature on the Akila. The aircraft grade anodized, aluminum curved shaft is sandblasted and has a dual textured grip making the axe feel solid in your hand.
Short and compact the Akila is perfect for when you need these things the most, usually for a short crux, so saving as much weight as possible is a real plus and it can be easily stored inside a backpack.
The Akila is the ideal tool for climbers and skiers who want to climb faster and lighter, but need a technical and robust ice axe for pounding in iron for a rappel or climbing short cruxy ice or steep couloirs.
Pommel, spike and pick protectors included.

Offered in both a hammer and adze. Available only in 49 cm length.
